2021 Central Coast STEM Expo

Five Reasons to Participate in STEM Expo

1.    Student science inquiry & engineering design/demo projects compete against others at or near same grade level for ribbons, plaques, prize money, $500 college scholarship.

2.    Reinforces Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards (researching, writing, listening, presenting skill development, as well as science and engineering practices). Students present projects to three pairs of judges.

3.    Develops 21st Century Partnership Learning and Innovative Skills (Creativity & Innovation, Critical Thinking & Problem Solving, Communication & Collaboration.

4.    Judges score results can be used to help determine student project grades. Using judges scores help insure a more objective grading process because 6 people look at project. Judging score is based on a 100 possible points rubric (see score card here), and 6 judges complete the rubric for each project. Then scores are normalized.

5.    No fuss or worries about Science Fair set-up, finding judges, and clean-up. Judging and Awards ceremony all taken care of by Air Force & engineer volunteers.
